Victoria Square, Woking: time-lapse of three towers and a new town centre

Our time-lapse film of Victoria Square, Woking, for Sir Robert McAlpine.

The project

Victoria Square extends Woking’s town centre shopping and adds three towers. The tallest residential tower has 34 storeys and the second 32; the Hilton hotel tower has 23. The scheme also includes a flagship Marks & Spencer, a plant-covered multi-storey car park, a glazed canopy entrance and an energy centre.

Sir Robert McAlpine built the £330m scheme for Moyallen and Woking Borough Council. Work started in June 2017 and finished in August 2022.

The brief

The team needed a record of a long, phased town-centre build from the first day. As the towers rose, coverage had to grow to show every part of the site, including views from height.

What we installed

Site Eye started with one solar-powered time-lapse camera at the beginning of the project. As the work spread across the site, this grew to three cameras. A short-term camera mounted on a tower crane added views from above, giving complete coverage of the works.

How the footage was used

  • Complete site record: the cameras covered every area of the site as the project needed.
  • Online portal: the team could download photos and video compilations from the Site Eye online portal.
  • Secure back-up: all images were stored and backed up, a point the client singled out.
